A Lullaby [1998]

Sleep, peacefully sleep.

Our Father will us keep.

Until the sky is torn in two,

until the sea is no more blue.

He will keep you safe all night-

while the moon shines in

its light.

The crickets sing their lullaby

for their Maker’s delight.

So sleep.

The One who never sleeps

or slumbers,

will surely cradle you under

His strong arms.

So sleep.

Like shepherds guarding their sheep

So will He keep

until the light of day.

Until the darkness has fled away.

Be not afraid of the Shadows

-they are but shades of light.

Soon one day there will be

no more night.

So sleep.

If we wake from some dream,

Did God notice-does He see?

He’s there through all our nights,

right besides us, holding us tight.

You see, Night is like Day to Him

And Day-like Night. For God made both,

And both are pleasing in His sight.

So sleep.

When you hear the wind rush

or thunders shudder,

Just whisper a prayer-just utter

And the angels will take it

Where high above

the Listener always listens,

with eyes of love.

So sleep, peacefully sleep.

“By day the Lord commands his steadfast love,

and at night his song is with me,

a prayer to the God of my life.”

Psalm 42:8
