What is Truth?

Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”

John 18:38

Most of us have read the story of Jesus’ conversation with Pilate before He was led away to be crucified. Pilate desperately tried to fit Jesus into a category of criminal so that his conscience would feel better about killing Him. At the end of their brief conversation, Pilate cries “What is truth?” But then Pilate flees before he receives the answer. What Pilate did not know, was that the truth was a Whom, not a what.

Jesus said “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life…” (John 14:6)

  •  {He is the Way and Truth}Do we not also focus on the “whats” of religion, politics, philosophies or other pursuits?  Why do we become so easily disillusioned? Perhaps we should also stop trying to fit Jesus into a neat category in our lives and then trying to smother our conscience with rituals–just like Pilate when he washed his hands in water.
  •  {He is the Life} Water doesn’t erase guilt. Church going or [enter verb or noun here] doesn’t erase anything either. Only Jesus can offer us true life and the peace that comes from knowing the Truth.

“… the truth is in Jesus,” (Eph 4:21)

 God is Truth
